About

Hello and welcome to Law and Lentils! Here you’ll find recipes that really run the gamut—a lot of food blogs out there specialize in one type of cooking (or baking), and that’s great (hello, expertise)! But I’m just a home cook looking to explore all kinds of cuisines and techniques with you along for the ride, so we’ll work our way through everything from braises to brioche. (Okay, maybe not brioche– I’ll probably leave that one to my bread-baking husband. Not my jam!)

I’ve got a soft spot for pie, cuisine from the Eastern part of the globe, Mediterranean food (specifically tzatziki, which I’m convinced is my one true love in this world), and any recipe that calls for buttermilk, sour cream, or any other kind of tangy dairy. Oh, also cheese. (I may have to retract that “one true love” comment about tzatziki.) And I’m a sucker for a sour beer and anything I haven’t tried before.

I started Law and Lentils several years ago as a first-year law student in Washington, D.C., but today I’m back in Western New York with husband, daughter, and nosy cats Louie and Sesame. In “real life,” I work in sexual and reproductive health/rights/justice. Most days, even the most challenging of baking projects seems like a breeze compared to increasing equity across the country! While we’re working on that last thing, the kitchen is a nice place to decompress and exercise some creativity—so let’s get started, shall we?

  1. Hi Chelsea! This is your first grade teacher, Mrs. Wiedemann! I found your site through Lake Country Echo and am thrilled to know about your successes. I will definitely check out your recipes. They look so yummy!

  2. Hi Chelsea, I just fixed your fennel and orange salad recipe from LCE and everyone in my family LOVED it, especially me. I will definitely make it again. Thanks for publishing interesting vegetarian recipes.
